Welcome

Welcome to the website of Lyrique-en-Mer/Festival de Belle-Île.

Since 1998 the Festival has been presenting opera performances and concerts in the magical setting of Belle-Île-en-Mer in Brittany, France.

Over the past twelve years the historic Citadelle Vauban has played host to performances of such works as Don Giovanni, Bluebeard's Castle, The Tales of Hoffmann, Madame Butterfly, Carmen, Falstaff, Don Pasquale, The Magic Flute, La Bohème, The Barber of Seville and Tosca among others, among others. The Festival is well-known for presenting up and coming international singers from such prestigious houses as New York's Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, L'Opèra de Paris, La Scala, Milan and London's Covent Garden.

Our 2010 season will run from July 23rd to August 20th. The Citadelle Vauban hosts the two opera productions which will be Mozart's Così fan tutte and Verdi's Rigoletto while the Belle Ile choir will perform in the island's churches: Fauré's Requiem, Félix Mendelssohn's Psalm 55, « Hör mein Bitten » , W. A. Mozart's «Spatzenmesse» and a new short composition of Richard Cowan, Lux Aeterna.

We are particularly glad to welcome every year so many visitors from the continent (more than 1000 !), who sailed to Belle-Île for a night of opera at the Citadelle, and returned to the mainland the same evening.

We hope to welcome you to Belle-Île in 2010!
