Angela Gilbert, Soprano

Angela Gilbert made her professional debut as Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera in Cape Town where she has also performed a variety of roles including Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow.
During the 1998 season Angela Gilbert portrayed Micaela in Peter Brook's La Tragedie de Carmen, which toured South Africa and Namibia. In 1999 she portrayed the Three Heroines in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Norina in Don Pasquale and Morgana in Alcina at the Handel Festival in Germany. In 2000 she joined Opera Orchestra of New York for Donizetti's Adelia and a series of opera concerts at the Hannover Festival in Germany.
In 2001 she joined the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera where she performed in a variety of operas including Idomeneo, L'Enfant et les Sortileges and Hansel und Gretel. She also was Inez in La Favorita at Carnegie Hall.
Last season she sang the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor with the Palm Beach Opera and returned to Opera Orchestra of New York for Elena in La Donna del Lago. This season she returns to the Met for Frau Ohne Shatten.
Ms Gilbert was chosen to represent South Africa at the Singer of the World Competition in 2003. She has also been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes including the Oudemeester Music Prize, the VITA award and the Chiappini Opera Trust.
This is Angela Gilbert's first year with Lyrique en Mer. She will sing the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute.
