Biography

Valerian Ruminski, Bass

Valerian Ruminski is a graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. He has sung numerous roles with the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, New Israeli Opera, Minnesota Opera and Chautauqua Opera, including Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Ferrando (Il Trovatore), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Colline (La Bohème), Grenvil (La Traviata) and Don Fernando (Fidelio). Mr. Ruminski made his debuts at Carnegie Hall in a concert performance of Halevy, La Juive (1999) and in 2001 at the Metropolitan Opera as Zuniga in Carmen.
In the recent years, Mr. Ruminski has garnered many prizes, awards and grants including a grant from the William Mattheus Sullivan Foundation; 1st Prize in the Saritelli-DiPanni Voice Competition; the Katherine Mayer Award from the Santa Fe Opera for outstanding apprentice artist and a Special Judge's Prize from the Center for Contemporary Opera Competition in NYC. He was also the Year 2000 winner in the prestigious MacAllister Award Opera Competition.
Future engagements include roles of Gremin in Eugene Onegin with the Santa Fe Opera and The King in Aida with Atlanta Opera.
Mr. Ruminski is also the artistic director of the newly established Nickel City Opera in Buffalo dedicated to commissioning and presenting contemporary opera.
Valerian Ruminski makes his debuts with Lyrique en Mer as Sarastro in The Magic Flute.
